October 5, 2018 update:
I created this blog post because the annoucement from Comcast and Roxbury Innovation Center was available only as a Portable Document Format (PDF) file, limiting its availability to users with compatible PDF software on their devices. Because a web page is far more accessible than a PDF, I made the contents of the original PDF available in the form of this blog post. For archival purposes, I’m hosting
the original PDF for those who would like to view or download it.

Comcast will deliver high-speed Internet, host multiple events at RIC and air Public Service Announcements (PSAs) to further increase awareness of RIC

BOSTON (November 28, 2017) – Comcast today announced that it is partnering with Roxbury Innovation Center (RIC) to help foster the organization’s workforce readiness efforts, specifically as it relates to technology program and product offerings. Comcast will provide high-speed internet and other advanced technology services to the center as part of a comprehensive five-year partnership agreement, as well as assistance with expanding the center’s STEM programming.

The Comcast and Roxbury Innovation Center partnership was announced at a special event focused on technology and virtual reality career opportunities at RIC earlier today. Attendees were able to sample virtual reality technology, meet technology company executives and learn more about Comcast’s innovative offerings. Roxbury Innovation Center is a program of the Venture Café Foundation and created through a public-private partnership with the City of Boston to support local economic development in Dudley Square and throughout Roxbury, Dorchester and Mattapan by positioning innovation and entrepreneurship as viable career options for all.

Comcast is providing RIC with a dedicated broadband connection that will support high speed Internet, Xfinity WiFi and the Xfinity X1 Platform. Comcast’s financial support includes a grant for RIC to purchase 3D printers, enabling the organization to offer new opportunities and workshops for its users. In addition, Comcast will produce and create Public Service Announcements (PSAs) and air them on dozens of cable networks in the Boston area as well as provide RIC with the opportunity to use longer form profile videos highlighting the success stories from RIC on its social channels and website.

Roxbury Innovation Center looks forward to partnering with Comcast on programming that brings more STEM education to students in the Roxbury community and assists our community members to connect, start, and grow businesses, said Alessandra Brown, Director of the Roxbury Innovation Center.

Comcast and RIC are natural partners since we both share a commitment to innovation, technology and giving back to the community, said Tracy Pitcher, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Greater Boston Region. Today’s event was a great success, which hopefully inspired students and parents to think of a STEM-focused career as a viable choice. I am confident that RIC’s patrons will help imagine and create the products and services of tomorrow for their own startups or other established companies.
